A Valentine at Heart

A vintage Valentine from the sweetest of students.  He's now a wonderful young man.  Thanks, Jake!

Not quite February, but I couldn't wait to put things on the mantle.  Some of our favorites.... a tin ceiling panel with chalkboard paint, Valentine stitchery, a vintage cupid print, an old scale with a silver tray and candles, and my husband's arrows I cut off and painted the fletchings pink.

This may look familiar.  We had it out for Christmas.  We just switch it up with old Valentines, hearts, and misc. fun stuff.

A great hand-thrown vase from a garage sale, some branches from the back yard, and some ceramic hearts.  Who doesn't love a little love?

Sewing Table

Cindy's sewing table.  This was the top pick at a church rummage sale.  Sweet!

Weekend Finds

I have always wanted one of these depression glass cookie jars.  The color is so cool and it has a nice weight.  The label is a bonus.  It was a bit more money than I wanted to spend, but sometimes a shopper's gotta shop.

This heavy weight poster is a classic.  It's bigger than it looks, about 4 feet by 5 feet.  The back is some kind of foam board.  It's going to be the inspiration piece for redecorating our guest room.  So much nostalgia...the lyrics, the music, the era.  "on my way, don't know where I'm goin'."

Cindy's sweet little sugar bowl.  Chintzware made in England.  A bit of summer's color in the midst of dreary winter.

Ski Season

I stopped by my friend Sherry's house for tea and cheesecake this afternoon.  She has a whole winter/skiing theme going....figurines, books, vintage postcards, even a perpetual snowball from Finland.  She's agreed to be a guest contributor for the blog.  We can't wait to highlight her many treasures!

Red Wing

Whenever we are out treasure hunting, we pick up Red Wing Pottery pieces.  Our sister lived in Red Wing, MN for many years and she and her family got us hooked on this stuff.  It's not quite as popular now as during the country-style decorating phase, but what goes around comes around and there will never be pieces made like these again.  The history and significance of these crocks and coolers will last.  Plus they are great for storing stuff.  We used two 20 gallon crocks to house our kids' stuffed animals.  Now they serve as a catch-all.

Jadite

The color and feel of Jadite is remarkable.  This set is a special set from a special friend.

Treasures Today

We had a great time treasure hunting this morning.  Although we weren't in the market for these beau chapeaux, we couldn't resist the look.  Stunning.  We felt we could have made quite a statement at the Moscow Olympics last year.

We bought this gem for nostalgia sake.  We learned to tell time on a Fisher Price clock just like this.  The music box is working well and the hands move freely. There is very little wear.   It was a steal for $2.

We are both non-coffee drinkers.  For us, a hot cup of cocoa has always been the Nectar of the Gods.  We have collected cocoa tins for years, much harder to come by than coffee tins.  The one on the right was today's find.  $8 was a very fair price.  It fits right in.

Hello!   This calendar from 1964 is a gift to my husband.  Living in the north gives us a special appreciation for RCMP and winter artwork.  Now to find a spot at the cabin for it.  For $6, who could snowshoe away from this?

Humidor

We were attracted to this jar at a garage sale.  The gentleman said it had belonged to his great uncle.  He said he brought it from the old country and that it was used as a humidor.  We don't know anything about humidors, but it was way too cool to pass up.  It has angels and dragons adorning its sides.  There are a couple of small chips on the inside lid, understandable considering its use and age.

The bottom of the humidor is marked.  There is also a faint "11" stamped.  If you know any more information on this, please let us know.

This sign posted at a sale last fall shows that someone has a real sense of humor!  We laughed about it all day.
